The journals were designed as interactive experiences placed along reading rails in visitor centers and exhibit halls.
They are intended to offer a glimpse into the surrounding wilderness and a suggestion of what a guest may encounter while exploring the various parks and public lands.
I have always attempted to keep "visual journals" of my experiences. Mostly created in real time, or shortly after the events occurred. As a result, these "journals" often contain mistakes or missteps or even glaring holes. I find them however, to be the best artifacts of an experience. I don't often share them, but I've been encouraged to do so here.
This journal reflects a period of time when I worked in partnership with the NSF in Antarctica as support staff for their many grantees.

Each illustration contains hidden animals and plants specific to the area throughout it's natural growth cycle.
The illustrations required attention to plant succession, animal communities and weather patterns. Each scene reflects those specific considerations.
